Dine al fresco in style and take inspiration on how to adorn our favorite tables this season

The Summer season is in full swing – the weather has turned warmer, the days are long and school is no longer in session. As a pastime that has long been en vogue dating back to the ancient Egyptians and medieval times, one could argue that the best part of this happy season is dining outdoors. It is an activity that all of us can participate in no matter our age, and for many, it is one that evokes nostalgic childhood memories.

Not too long ago, outdoor eating was perhaps a little more primitive with the use of paper plates, cups and plastic utensils being commonly used. As with outdoor furniture and fabrics, it is only in recent years that great strides have been made for entertaining al fresco. Melamine, acrylic, enamel and even resin have come on the scene allowing tabletop vendors to create a plethora of options for hosts to choose from to create a dreamy table set up that is also child friendly.  As such, summer tablescapes have become a thing of art.

The pandemic took dining en plein air a step further, opening it up to more than a simple barbecue. As in-person gatherings were forced to be held outside during that time, many even started bring out their fine china and silver to make those experiences that much more special, and the trend has stuck (of course, those who have been fortunate enough to attend an Ole Miss tailgate know this was a Southern tendency long before quarantine and are happy the rest of the country has finally caught on!).

So, when preparing to host under the stars, we recommend starting with your outdoor furniture as your foundation, and selecting your accessories and dinnerware from there in order to set the perfect summer tablescape.
